About one month after releasing firmware version 5.0, TomTom is already releasing a newer version. The software is suited for all available GO's (Classic and 300), and is a free download from the TomTom site.
Just don't expect any big changes or new funtionality this time, because this 5.1 firmware is basically the firmware which will ship with the TomTom GO 500, which is due within a few weeks. Most of the changes have to do with specific GO 500 features like the handsfree function.
Route calculation
Classic and 300 users won't see that many differences in the new firmware. Yet every GO owner is still urged to upgrade to 5.1 because there really are improvements: eg. the route-calculation routines have been made a lot more efficient. TomTom claims this results in a 20-30% speed increase when calculating a route. And that's also a nice bonus we think...
