GO 300 in the shops next week
Thursday April 21, 2005 - TomTom has always stated that the first new GO model, the 300, would be for sale in April. Now it seems they are keeping their word.
The TomTom GO 300 will be for sale by mid next week, and is the first model of the new 2005 series that was announced on CeBIT last March to hit the shops. It's also the cheapest model. And the final price turns out even lower than we had estimated: it seems the TomTom GO 300 can be yours for less than € 500,- (£ 342,-) !
He who eventually chooses for the 300 will have to make a few concessions compared to the current GO (which is widely called the "Classic" by now): the 300 doesn't have Assisted Satellite Navigation (ASN), and is shipped without a charger for in-home charging. The 300 also doesn't have the Major Roads of Europe. On the other hand, the 300 is TomTom PLUS ready because of the built-in Bluetooth chip. TomTom PLUS is an extra service by TomTom which will become available real soon now.
From a technical point of view, the Classic and the 300 are almost identical, which shows from the 300's specifications:
200 Mhz ARM920T CPU;
32 MB RAM;
SD-card for firmware and region maps;
320 x 240 3,5inch TFT-scherm with max. 4.096 colours;
Internal Li-Ion battery;
Dimensions: 115mm x 92mm x 58mm;
Weight: 310 gram;
12-channel ‘All-in-View’ integrated GPS receiver.
What's in the box?
A new and happy owner of a GO 300 will find the following things inside the box:
A GO 300;
The mount, which can be attached to the windshield by means of a suction cup;
An SD-card with the new regional maps and version 5.0 of the firmware;
A carrying bag for better portability and storing;
A cleaning cloth for tidying the screen of the unit;
An installation CD with the PC software and a manual;
A car adapter, suitable for 12-24 volts;
A USB 2.0-datacable for connecting the 300 to your PC;
An installation poster with easy instructions on how to mount the unit to the winshield.
Besides that, you'll also find a few smaller items, like a short manual, a registration card for online registration and a small folder which presents all the available accessoires toe the GO, inside the box.
We have added a
special section to our Pricewatch forum for the GO 300. With the help of this, you should be able to find the best deal on the GO!
Now we still have to wait for the TomTom GO 500 and 700 which should become available in june for the prices of € 650 (£ 445,-) and € 800,- (£ 550,-).
