The start of the mapupdate for MOBILE 5 gives us a pretty good indication of what to expect for our GO. The chance that TomTom will choose for a different procedure or different prices is rather slim indeed.
The new maps for MOBILE 5, can be ordered now as an update through the TomTom site for €79,- (£54,-) per region. That amount is with VAT included, but without the €9,95 (£7,-) shipping costs. For that money, you'll receive a memory card with the new 5.0 firmware and the latest update to the region which you own now. With this update, full postcode search (only in Holland and UK) is also included.
The price of the update is of course only valid to those who own a legal product code. Just like before, the normal price will probably be around €149,- (£100,-).
256 MB
During the CeBIT fair it was announced that current GO-owners who order a region-update will receive a new type of maps: a region map with Major Roads of Europe integrated. With those maps cross-border navigation (through main roads) without having to change maps becomes possible. This means the size of the new cards has increased substantially. Eg. the Benelux map will now ship on a 256 MB card instead of 128 MB. This is not true for the MOBILE 5: presumably because of the CPU power of mobile phones (or rather: lack thereof), Major roads of Europe will not be integrated into the cards.
Prices for the update of the Maps of Western Europe have not been officially announced yet. We'll keep you posted of course. Regarding those new maps, it might also be a good idea to have a look at our newspost about the coverage of the maps, because, as we reported earlier, not ever region is equally well covered...
