CeBIT: New GO's hit stores April/May

Thursday March 10, 2005 - From one TomTom GO to a complete series! Beginning April/May you'll be able to choose from TomTom GO 300, TomTom GO 500 and TomTom GO 700.

Last February the 18th we thought we had some pretty spectacular news for you. The official announcement of the new GO-hardware that TomTom made today only adds to that. There will be three new GO’s and the specifications are not to be sneezed at!

GO 300
First, there's the TomTom GO 300, the successor of the current GO. It's specifications are as good as identical to the "old" GO. Still, there are a few differences. The GO 300 also supports Bluetooth, which makes it compatible with the new TomTom PLUS service. (for more on this, see this newsflash: 'CeBIT: TomTom offers PLUS-service')

Another notable difference is that you won't find Assisted Satellite Navigation (ASN) on the GO 300. This function is now reserved for it's bigger brothers, the GO 500 and the GO 700. TomTom positions the 300 as the device for door-to-door navigation within country borders.

GO 500
The second new GO, which has been named the TomTom GO 500, strikes the attention because of it's faster 400Mhz CPU. Of course, this unit also offers Bluetooth support and is because of that also able to use the new TomTom PLUS service, just like the GO 300 is. Besides that, this mid-range model does offer ASN and can be controlled with the (optional) remote control.

TomTom thinks the GO 500 is the ideal navigational unit for door-to-door navigation within country borders and cross borders to any town in Europe. Navigating outside your country is possible using the Major Roads of Europe that are shipped with it.

GO 700
Finally, the high-end model: the TomTom GO 700. This little beauty ships with the same 400Mhz CPU as the GO 500, but has double the memory onboard: 64 MB. Of course the 700 also supports Bluetooth (making it TomTom PLUS ready), ASN and is shipped with a remote control in the box. The biggest difference with the GO 500 is the internal 2,5 GB harddisk. This makes the SD card reader totally redundant and so you won't find one on this model. On the harddisk there's another novelty installed: a complete detailed map of Europe, for door-to-door cross-border navigation thoughout the entire continent of Europe.

Handsfree!
Besides the above specifications TomTom whipped another huge surprise out of their hat this morning: as it turns out, the GO 500 and the GO 700 are both able to be used as a mobile phone carkit!

Both models carry a speaker (of course), but also an internal microphone which, in combination with any Bluetooth compatible mobile phone, can be used as a handsfree carkit! To make a call, you simply dial your phone number by tapping the digits onto the touch screen of your GO. There's also a phonebook option with which you can manage your own contacts. While you're making a call, the navigational functions continue normally; the only thing that's different is that the spoken navigational commands get temporarily muted.

The TomTom GO 300 is meant to ship in April, the GO 500 and GO 700 a month after that. Prices are still unknown for now, but we'll keep you updated on this of course.

For your viewing pleasure, we've made a nice little table in which all the features of the three new GO models are presented. To view, click this specification page link!
