Yes, the current maps for our GO are pretty dated. And yes, this is about to get fixed! Midst-April, TomTom will renew all the maps with up-to-date information as provided by map-maker Tele Atlas. And there's more good news: there will be special upgrade prices!
All TomTom GO-owners who own a valid product code will be able to update the maps of their region. And with it they'll immediately own a completely new sort of maps: a region map in which the Major Roads of Europe are integrated. This means cross border navigation without having to change maps! (but not detailed, only the major roads of course)
People who currently own at least two regions will be able to upgrade to the complete Maps of Western Europe for a very friendly price. Here also, the Major Roads of Europe are integrated in all the detailed maps of every country in the European region.
Nice detail is that the German region, Austria and Switzerland now also contains the maps of Poland and the Czech republic. Also new is the region Eastern Europe which contains the fully-connected AND-map of Poland, Czech Republic, Turkey, Hungary, Greece, Slovakia, Russia, Baltic States, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia / Herzegovina, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia / Montenegro, Belarus, Moldavia, Ukraine, Macedonia and Albania.
Europe-map
Perhaps a bit dissapointing is the fact that the new Europe map, which is shipped on the harddisk of the new TomTom GO 700 and which enables navigation on the entire continent without changing maps, will not be available as a separate upgrade product. So the detailed one-map, door-to-door navigation throughout Europe will remain reserved for the owners of the top-of-the-range model. (for now anyway)
If you've registered with TomTom's email service, you will be notified when the new maps become available. They will send you a newsletter with all the details about the upgrading possibilities. If you haven't registered for this newsletter yet, you can still do this on the TomTom site.
It's our hope to be able to provide you with the detailed retail prices for the new maps as soon as possible. Stay tuned!
