Investor Relations-spokesman Taco Titulaer has confirmed that German-based company Datafactory AG, which was bought last year by TomTom, will continue it's activities under the name TomTom WORK. This will also be announced at this year's CeBIT fair, that is held in Hannover, Germany from March 9 until March 15th 2006. Titulaer also mentioned that by then the first WORK products will be presented to the public.
Traffic-telematics
In August 2005, TomTom announced the takeover of Datafactory. This company, which is based in Leipzig, specialises in web-based solutions for managing and keeping track of professional car fleets and traffic-telematics.
Back then, Harold Goddijn, TomTom's CEO, claimed: "Lately we've noticed that navigation and tracking & tracing are merging more and more. The combination of Datafactory's solutions and TomTom's navigational products will allow us to enter the telematics market."
New GO's
Meanwhile, rumors are starting to spread about new consumer products that TomTom will release this CeBIT. Word is that we can expect a whole new generation of TomTom GO's. We've also already heard one possible name: GO2.
More news to follow shortly, no doubt...
