Seamless Europe map now available

Friday December 9, 2005 - Today, TomTom started shipping the completely seamless map of the entire continent of Western-Europe. It's shipped on a 1,5 GB SD card.

Until now, it was a TomTom 700 exclusive: the completely seamless and detailed map of Western Europe. But now you can also buy it separately as an accessory. The really good news is that this map will also work on a GO Classic, 300, 500, ONE and RIDER.

Newest maps
The newest Europe map is based on the most recent and available TeleAtlas mapdata. (version 2005.2), and enables you to travel through Western Europe without switching maps. The countries/regions included are: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Czech republic, Poland, Spain, Portugal, Andorra and Scandinavia.

No update
Same as with the downloadable region maps, which TomTom started offering on their site recently, the new Europe map is not meant to be an upgrade. An update offer for the owners of a GO700 will be made sometime in early 2006.

But there is even more good news! Every 700 owner that has bought his unit AFTER November 20th 2005, and who's 700 still holds the old map now has the oportunity to get the map updated for free. All that is required is that you contact TomTom support, and they will make sure that your 700 gets picked up and shipped back to your home, carrying the new maps. All expenses paid by TomTom. The only downside is that you'll have to do without your trusted 700 for a few days. But that's a small price to pay if you ask us...

The price for this new seamless Western Europe map is € 249,- (£169,-), including the SD card. If you'd like to order one, you can do so on the TomTom site.
