Firmware 5.42 ready for download!

Wednesday November 16, 2005 - It's here! The new (free) update for TomTom GO owners including the solution for the 'Belgium problem' is now available for download!

It's taken quite a while, but the solution to the 'Belgium problem' is now only a mouse click away! TomTom has just released the newest TomTom GO firmware, and this 5.42 version completely fixes the forementioned problem.

Other good news is that this version brings the total available POI categories back to the orginal number of 40. Since the release of firmware 5.1, an unexpected error had lessened that number to 28. This error rapidly became one of the most discussed topics on our forum.

The 'Belgium problem'
The Belgium problem was the result of a (bad) choice that TomTom had made, namely that with equally named streetnames in a certain district, priority was given to the street that was closest to the center of the head disctrict. As a result, it was possible that the first streetname that appeared on the GO after making a selection didn't actually exist in the chosen village/city. Needless to say that created a problem or two...

This problem has now been solved with the new 5.42 firmware. Priority is now always given to the street in the village/city that the user has actually chosen. To avoid any further confusion, after each streetname, the name of the village/city is now also shown between brackets.

You're of course very welcome to post your comments about this new TomTom GO firmware in our forum.
