The long wait seems to finally come to an end: the first TomTom GO 700's should hit the stores presumably this week. But beware: supplies will be small, very small. There's no way that TomTom will be able to live up to the demand for the 700 in the first few weeks. So if you want a 700, you'll have to be quick!
We called up several big stores like Halfords, Dynabyte and Dixons and we got mixed replies. Some told us that they'll have the devices "this thursday", others just claimed "sometime this week". There are even some that decided to play it safe and mentioned that next week is still also a possibility.
Enormous demand
Despite this good news, there is a very good chance that a lot of buyers will still end up getting dissapointed because they've just missed that last available TTG 700. A supplier has told us that their current stock is absolutely insufficient to fill up all the demand for the 700. He's told us: "Our biggest and best customers will get priority now. This means that some stores will probably not receive their backordered 700's until we receive the next shipment from TomTom".
But also at stores that will ship the 700, there are still a lot of questions. One employee told us that he would have no problem in moving a few dozens of the TTG 700. "The question is", he claimed, "if we'll receive that many!".
High-end model
The TomTom GO 700 is the high-end model of the new TomTom GO range and will sell for approx. €800 / £535. The device holds 64 MB of memory, a 400 Mhz CPU and a 2,5 GB harddisk with on it the compete detailed map of Europe. The device is also Bluetooth-compatible, and ships with a power adapter and a remote control.
